QB Assistant is a new feature unveiled in QB Connect this past week.  It is still in Beta testing in the QuickBooks Online (QBO) playground.  This one, on a guess, will be here soon and unlikely to go away.  So many questions?  Will this make the bookkeeper the job of the past?  It certainly is a lot different when I started with this profession in the mid eighties.

Turning on QB Assistant…

Very easy to do.  Just click gear>QB Labs>QB Assistant.  Toggle it to the on position with one click.

Is it like Google?

Yes and No.  It does it’s search in it’s vast knowledge base of Intuit’s Community Forum. I have been an active contributor in this forum for many years.  I have also seen excellent, good and some pretty bad answers on the forum.  Not all answers are correct since it is a user-to-user forum.  But it is monitored by Intuit.  I am going to assume (and remember what your mother said about “assuming”) that the answers connected to this QB Assistant are accurate answers.

If QB Assistant doesn’t know the answer, what happens next?

It will send you to the forum.  You can modify the question.  I find if you make the search more direct, it will find you a better answer.  This is one of the reasons I am a better google searcher than my husband.  He tends to ask google in a bunch of words, when only the key words are necessary.  You can see a sample of that in the video below.

Where will the future go from here?

Ah, the million dollar question.  But is the future here now?  Do you own an Amazon Alexa?  Here is a video from QB Connect from last year (I attended this one) and it blew my mind.  Technology is changing so rapidly.  We can talk faster than we can text.  It is all about speed.  But I know my experience with Siri understanding my Rhode Island accent has been less than stellar.  But these devices learn from you.   They call it machine learning and we are just at the beginning of this stuff.  Fascinating!
