Error 9999 has got me scratching my head on the day after Thanksgiving. Almost all of my customer’s accounts have bank feeds that are stuck from two days ago. Why? Let’s investigate. The steps below are what I would normally do with an online banking error.
Click update…
Click update. You can do this three times. Let it cycle. See the results. Sometimes this clears things up. Ah, but not today.
Clear the cache….
My go to thing when things don’t work right in QuickBooks. Usually not something I will do for a bank feed error, but it was worth a shot. Still no bueno. Broken feed. This trick does, however fix a multitude of errors or repeated “our shoe became untied” problems. To clear the cache in most browsers, see this other wonderful blog post from Tim Fisher of Lifewire.
Disconnect/reconnect the feed….
This one does sometimes fix the problem. Make sure your “for review” window is completely clear of transactions as it will clear this entire list out when you disconnect. In this case, it is not going to fix the problem whatsoever. Always worth a shot. See the details on the steps to disconnect/reconnect here in this other post.
Log into the bank’s website directly….
Logging into the bank’s website directly in a different tab or window sometimes will fix an online bank issue. Sometimes the bank updated it’s security settings and sometimes it just wants you to update your personal security questions or just reconnect with the bank.
All of the above did NOT fix my issue…what’s next?
I went directly to the community forum. Bunches of people with the same problem. No connectivity with the bank. Different banks across the board. Not surprisingly, lots of angry users. My suggestion is to add your question to the forum (the more people who complain, the more likely for a fix). Also, you can click gear>feedback as demonstrated in the video below.
Is it frustrating when things do not work? YES! My best advice is to let the bank feed sit over the weekend. Hopefully, on Monday, Intuit will have made the repairs to the links that connect the feed. You can see an official response here.
