PC vs Mac debate has been going on for a long time.  You are either a PC person or a Mac person.  Very rarely is someone both.  Well, I am both because I do conversions for people who want to convert their QuickBooks desktop program to QuickBooks Online (QBO). If it weren’t for that, I would be a Mac (Apple) girl all the way.  Why you ask?

PC Vs Mac:  My Dell horror story…

I use the Dell laptop XPS when traveling or doing conversions.   So I use it about once per month.  This laptop is sparingly used.  One day, I opened it up and noticed the touchpad pushing out of the computer itself.  The battery had swelled.  Then I get an email with a Dell recall notice.  See info on this website on that.  A repair person came out to fix it and it took him 2 hours to change the battery.  I heard him speaking to Dell because he had trouble getting the battery to work.  He actually almost left my office and I made him prove to me it worked before he left.  He ended up staying longer and more phone calls to Dell until, eventually, he got it to work again.

(See this post if you need to re-download your desktop program.)

PC Vs Mac:  Support from hell…

My opinion only, but support with Dell is horrible.  They are a Houston, Texas based firm.  They outsource their support.  To navigate in their support center is horrible.  I am transferred from one tech support person to another and am told I am out of warranty.  I need to send my pc to them for repair.  For $49.00 and they ship you a box to send it to them.  So I did.

QBO support can be equally horrible unless you have the big advantage of a Diamond support team at Intuit.  My support team is the best!  It is US based and the people who help the ProAdvisors know their stuff.  If they cannot help you, the escalate it to someone who can.  If you need help with QBO, reach out to a Diamond level ProAdvisor who can get you that premier support.

Dell phone calls!  Make them stop!

Seriously, support from Dell called me every day, several times per day.  It gave me an uneasy feeling like I was being scammed.   Just by the sheer volume and content of the phone calls.  Then when they did call with the repair diagnosis, if you do not know your service tag, you are screwed. Plain and simple.  That is the only way they know who you are.   They tell me I need a new battery.  What?  You just recalled my battery and gave me a new one! 45 mins. on hold and they give me the battery for “free”.  They tell me I need repairs to the “motherboard”. Why do I not believe this?  I really felt like I was being deceived.  I agree to the repairs.  $178.00 later the laptop is being shipped back.

Where is my PC?

Dell calls again.  I see you have your computer.   I answer, “um, no I do not”.  Well FedEx says you have it.  This is when the nightmare got worse.  I go to my one of many emails to find the order, then the tracking number.  Per FedEx, my computer was delivered in August 2017.  I call them again.  “What is your service code?”  I DON’T KNOW!  YOU HAVE MY COMPUTER!  You can watch the video to hear the rest.

Yes, I have my PC back.  It works.  Not sure for how long,  but right now it is back.  Is it true that certain features don’t work on a Mac on a web program like QBO over a PC?  Or did a PC person tell me that?  🙂  Which are you PC or Mac?  I’d love to hear!
