I was pondering all the activity that’s been going on in my Facebook group QB Community Live!, where we mentor other accountants, and I began to wonder…

What kind of community (if any), exist for our Attorneys and Law Firms for whom we serve?

Accounting services are just one piece of the larger business and entrepreneurship pie. I’m certain that lawyers must also think about sales and marketing for example. Right??? My own efforts in the world of business confirm, that to succeed you’ve got to do more than ‘hang a shingle’! Sure, you’ll gain clientele off the street – somebody who just needs representation and found you by pure happenstance.

More likely, you are needing to think about multiple pieces of the pie, and hopefully NOT the pieces you should be outsourcing…like Law Firm Accounting, for instance.

I took the liberty of searching for Law Firm Groups on Facebook, and was not too surprised to find a few Facebook groups that could aid you in your practice – the other quadrants of your professional activities.

WARNING: Facebook can be very distracting if used during business hours, so plan your time, use responsibly, …etc…etc…and here’s a TIP: set an alarm OR TWO for the amount of time you wish to be logged into Facebook.

Anyway, here are a few discoveries I made while looking over the various groups you can mingle with, on that media:

1) There are general groups about running/growing a law practice that you can join. They may aid you in thinking ‘outside the box’ (or ‘briefcase’…if that’s more appealing ;).

2) There are groups specific to the type of law, or your specific role within a firm.

3) Just like other groups built on Facebook, some groups are “public” and easy to join, and others are “closed” or “private” requiring an administrator’s approval to join and/or invite-only.

Facebook groups will be helpful to you in building your career as an attorney/partner. The interaction you’ll find there will encourage thinking about all of the pieces of the pie (your business), and can also be a great source of clarity on what pieces to delegate/outsource and when.

QB Community Live! Is a public group on Facebook, so if you’re feeling a bit shy, come on over and find me. Give Facebook groups a test run. While you’re there, please invite your accountant. QB Community Live! – fun, and friendly! Tag me in a comment if you wish, you can even use #PieceOfThePie so I’ll know it’s YOU! 🙂
