Duplicate bank account! How did it happen? Was it from a bank feed import? Interestingly, this is very common. Sometimes, we import and if we get super-fast click happy, we can create a new bank account instead of importing into the existing. So this question was asked on the community forum. It was a desktop question that we happily answered on Community Live. If you haven’t joined our group, why not? Duplicate bank account: The question…
Duplicate Accounts-I need to delete one of them Question by: BigBillFL
I have a client who manually entered transactions and also downloaded the same transactions using her bank feed. The transactions were downloaded into a different account than the one she used to manually enter her transactions. Consequently, all of the transactions in the bank feed account were entered twice, doubling the income and expenses.
The bank feed account has a lightning bolt in the cleared column. I need to delete the bank feed account and all of its transactions. How do I do this? Please be specific. Thank you.
Duplicate bank account: The answer for QuickBooks desktop version…
Note, you would need the Accountant’s version of QuickBooks to perform this task. Basically, you have a few options:
- 1 . Go to accountant (top toolbar) Batch Delete/Void transactions. Make sure you select only the ones from the exact bank account (sort by account) and select them>delete them.
- 2. You could merge the two bank accounts. Make sure you merge the new one into the old one.
- 3. You can manually (and this is the painful way) delete them one at a time (like 4 clicks).
As with all of the suggestions above (and demonstrated in our video) you need to BACKUP your data file before choosing any of these methods. See the video answer here.
Duplicate bank account: The answer for QuickBooks Online version…
Oh so simple! Just go to the bank account. Click on the column “in QuickBooks” and then select the transactions click undo. That will place them back in the bank feed. Now when you disconnect the bank account, it will remove the transactions in the “for review column”. Next, go to the bank tab and click the pencil to edit and “disconnect on close”. Lastly, go to accounting>chart of accounts and find the account. Click use register and at the drop down, click delete.
