Apply a credit memo to multiple invoices in QuickBooks? This is a great question posted by Jim Mahoney on the QB Community:
Apply Credit Memo to Multiple Invoices“In QuickBooks Enterprise 2018., we have a large volume customer to whom we have offered a discount of 5% of their monthly purchases exceeding $10,000. We have calculated the first monthly discount and created a Credit memo for that amount. The customer has now paid the shorted amount. Wee have no way of applying the credit memo since it doesn’t relate to a specific invoice. Is there a way to apply this volume discount? I’m beginning to think we’d be better off having them pay in full and issuing them a monthly check for their discount. Has anyone been able to make this work?”
Apply credit memo to multiple invoices: The steps…
- Create the customer invoice
- Create the credit memo with your discount item
- Receive the customer payment
- Click on the invoice and the credit memo
- Change the amount on the memo to read the % of the discount off of the total credit memo, leaving the remaining balance
See video below for a demonstration on how to do this transaction on QuickBooks Online.

The flow is the same but the view is different from QBO: Basically, you will go in and receive the customer payment. Enter the customer payment amount, click discounts and credits and under the column “amount to use”, change it to the amount you are discounting. Click Done.

Raffle and QuickBooks Connect…
At the beginning of the video I mentioned the contest. I would love to take you thru a journey at QB Connect 2018. We will be doing a live feed from the conference. If you would like to be in the Raffle to win a free 90 minute bookkeeping support session with me, ask to be added to QB Community Live Facebook page. Once you are approved to join QB Community Live page, just write a post “add me to the raffle” and you are in. I plan on drawing a random name on the last day of QB Connect, which is November 7th. Feel free to follow the page and watch the interviews, etc. It will be just like you are part of the conference!
Last piece of advice: Raffle Rules…
There are always rules, right? So the 90 minute session will be via a zoom meeting. We will log in together and you will share your screen and QuickBooks file with me. The 90 minutes total session must be used up by December 31, 2018. You can also do the session in 3 short 30 minute sessions or used up at one time. The winner must redeem this for their own business file or we can use a sample file and the session is not transferable.
